Description:

This work is one of the early defining pieces from ShouXin’s signature Black Cat Series. Created during the artist’s early exploration of the series, it marks an important stage in the development of the distinctive black cat imagery that would later become one of the most recognizable themes in his work.
With its dramatically arched body, wide-open mouth, and boldly exaggerated silhouette, the cat is captured in the middle of an enormous yawn. Finely rendered facial details contrast with the broad, sweeping graphite strokes of the body, creating a composition that feels both spontaneous and remarkably expressive. As an early work closely connected to the formation of the Black Cat Series, The Big Yawn holds particular significance within the series and remains one of its most distinctive images.
