Description:

This work is part of ShouXin’s popular Black Cat, Snowfield series, one of the artist’s most recognizable recurring themes. Rather than drawing the snowy landscape itself, ShouXin concentrates the graphite almost entirely on the black cat and the trail of paw prints it leaves behind, allowing the untouched paper to become the vast expanse of white snow.
This striking use of negative space creates a composition that is both minimal and highly expressive. The contrast between the dark, energetic lines of the cat and its footprints and the surrounding openness of the paper gives the work a distinctive sense of atmosphere, making this interplay of bold marks and untouched space a defining characteristic of the Black Cat, Snowfield series.
